RoCode vs Roblox Assistant

Assistant is the AI Roblox ships inside Studio. RoCode is an independent agent that works in the same place through a plugin. Here is where they overlap and where they part.

Checked against Roblox’s documentation for Assistant and the Studio MCP server on 30 September 2026. If something has changed, tell us in the Discord (opens in a new tab) and we will correct it.

Nothing to install on your computer beyond the plugin. Studio connects to the chat with a one-time 8-character code.

Built into Studio itself. Nothing to install, nothing to pair. Your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini API key is optional.

Feature RoCode Roblox Assistant
What you install A free plugin from the Roblox Creator Store. The chat runs in your desktop browser. Nothing. It is built into Roblox Studio.
Works on the place you already have open Yes. Reads the objects and scripts a step needs, then creates and edits in place. Yes. Creates and modifies scripts and objects in your data model, and can work from your current selection.
Plans before it builds No plan to review first. It looks through the place when a step needs it and works through the change tool by tool, visible in the chat. Yes. Switch the Agent drop-down to Plan, or type /plan, and it writes an editable Markdown plan, may ask clarifying questions first, and runs only when you click Build.
Playtests its own work No. Compile check in Studio, reads the Output of playtests you run, can re-read what it changed. Yes. Roblox’s docs say it can playtest and simulate player input, and its screen capture subagent can look at the viewport in Edit and Play modes.
Meshes, procedural models and store assets No. Parts, 12 ready-made structures and UI layouts. It does not generate meshes or insert Creator Store models. Yes. Generates meshes and procedural models (up to 50 procedural models in a rolling 24 hours), and inserts Creator Store and inventory assets you pick.
Undo in Studio Yes. Each batch of RoCode changes is marked as an undo point in Studio’s history. A longer run takes several presses of Ctrl+Z. Its docs do not say how its edits appear in undo history. Procedural models it generates support Studio’s undo and redo.
Choose the model GLM 5.3 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 on Pro, Claude Opus 5.5 on Studio and up, GPT-6 Astra on Ultra and up (DeepSeek V4 Flash on Starter), plus a model you choose through your own OpenRouter key on Pro and above. Yes. Add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini API key under Manage API Keys, then pick a model from the Model drop-down.
Works from a browser on another machine Yes. The chat is a web page paired with the plugin. If they are on different networks when you pair, you confirm with Connect anyway and type a new code. No. It runs in the Studio window, though its chats sync across devices through the cloud. The Studio MCP server runs locally, for AI clients on the same computer.
Cost Starter (free): 3 credits a day. Paid plans from $9.99 a month. No charge listed in Roblox’s docs. It is built into Studio, which Roblox describes as a free application.

In practice

What a RoCode run looks like

The RoCode chat with a prompt being typed: make a spinning glowing part above the spawn that changes colour when you click it. Roblox Studio is open beside it.
1You describe it in the chat, in plain English.
Three finished tool cards in the chat: Create Instance SpinPart, Create Script Spinner, Create Script ClickColor. The new objects are highlighted in the Studio Explorer.
2Every step is visible: the part, then each script.
The spinning part in the Studio viewport after being clicked, now a different colour, with the Output window logging the colour change.
3The result is in your place, in Studio’s undo history.

Where Roblox Assistant is stronger

  • It is already in Studio, with nothing to install or pair, and Roblox’s docs list no charge for it.
  • It can playtest, simulate player input and capture the viewport in Edit and Play modes. RoCode does none of these: you run the playtests.
  • It generates meshes, procedural models and materials, and inserts assets from the Creator Store or your inventories. RoCode builds 3D objects from parts only.
  • Planning Mode writes an editable Markdown plan that runs only when you click Build, which suits large multi-script jobs.
  • You can bring your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini key, teach it your conventions with Skills, and connect outside AI clients through the built-in Studio MCP server.

Where RoCode is stronger

  • Every action shows in the chat as a named step, such as Create Script or Set Property, with the exact path it touched, and each batch of changes is marked as an undo point in Studio’s history.
  • The chat is a web page. You can run it on one screen or one machine and let Studio sit on another.
  • Paid plans include GLM 5.3, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra by plan, with no API key to set up (Starter has DeepSeek V4 Flash). On Pro and above, your own OpenRouter key adds a model you choose on OpenRouter, in the same chat.
  • An allowance with a clear number on it: 3 credits a day on Starter (free), and paid plans measured in credits a month, so you know the limit in advance.
  • 12 ready-made structures and 6 UI layouts, each placed in one call.

Pricing

What each one costs

RoCode

$9.99a month for Pro, or free every day

  • Free plan: 3 credits a day, no card. On the free model that is enough for a few small tasks a day.
  • Pro $9.99 a month (150 credits), Studio $24.99 (400), Ultra $49.99 (900), Max $99.99 (2,000), in US dollars before tax. Billed yearly, each plan costs 30% less with the same credits.
  • A credit measures what a run costs to compute. On GLM 5.3 it is usually about 4 credits a task. Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra use credits faster.
  • Credit packs from 25 credits for $2.99 up to 1,500 credits for $94.99, for paid plans. They never expire.
  • Your own OpenRouter key and a model you choose on Pro and above, billed by OpenRouter, not by RoCode.

Roblox Assistant

$0built into Studio, no charge listed in its docs

  • Built into Roblox Studio, which Roblox describes as a free application. Roblox’s Assistant docs list no charge or subscription for it.
  • The Assistant guide caps procedural model generation at 50 models in a rolling 24-hour window.
  • If you add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini API key, requests made with it use your account with that provider.

Which one

Which should you pick?

Try Assistant first. It is already in Studio, Roblox’s docs list no charge for it, and it can playtest your game, capture the viewport, generate meshes and procedural models, and run on your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini key. If it does what you need, you do not need anything else.

Reach for RoCode when you want to work from a browser with Studio on another screen or machine, see every step the agent took with the path it touched, use RoCode’s included models or your own OpenRouter key, or plan around a published daily or monthly credit allowance. You can run both on the same place: Assistant for planning, playtests and generated assets, RoCode for script and build work.

FAQ

Questions

Is Roblox Assistant free?

Roblox’s documentation lists no charge for it. Assistant is built into Roblox Studio, which Roblox describes as a free application. The Assistant docs do not publish a message limit; the one cap they document is 50 procedural models in a rolling 24-hour window. RoCode’s free plan gives 3 credits a day and paid plans start at $9.99 a month.

Can I use RoCode and Assistant together?

Yes. They are separate tools working on the same place, and both leave their edits in Studio. RoCode makes no edits mid-playtest: if a test is running when a change is due, RoCode stops the test first, or asks you to press Stop. Each batch of RoCode changes is marked as an undo point in Studio’s history.

Does RoCode use Roblox’s MCP server?

No. RoCode uses its own plugin from the Creator Store, paired with the web chat. The Studio MCP server is built into Roblox Studio and is switched on in Assistant under Manage MCP Servers. It is what AI clients such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI connect to.
