In short
Roblox's documentation gives no daily message limit for Assistant. The only Assistant cap it documents is 50 procedural models in a rolling 24-hour window, which frees up gradually as older requests pass the 24-hour mark instead of resetting at a set time. Code Assist, the code suggestions in the Script Editor, has a documented daily cap, but the docs do not give the number.
- If Studio tells you that you have reached a limit, go by what that message says about when it lifts: the docs give no reset time for Assistant chat.
- For errors such as "failed to load messages" or "internal server error", check Roblox's status page, update Studio, check your connection, then start a new chat. Do not delete the old chat to fix it: Roblox says deleted chats cannot be recovered.
- If you are blocked, you can wait, add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google API key, connect your own AI client through the Studio MCP server, or write the code yourself. Roblox's docs do not say whether a key or an MCP client changes its own limits.

What Roblox documents about Assistant limits
Roblox's Assistant documentation gives a number for exactly one usage limit. Most of what people call "the daily limit" is either a different tool or something Roblox's docs do not cover. This is everything the docs say, as of 30 September 2026.
| Tool or feature | What the docs say | When it frees up |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant chat messages | No message limit is given. | Not documented. |
Procedural models (/generate_procedural_model) | Up to 50 in a rolling 24-hour window. | Continuously. Each request stops counting 24 hours after you made it; there is no fixed reset time. |
Meshes (/generate_mesh) | No count is published. Each mesh takes an optional maximum triangle count, 10,000 by default. | Not documented. |
| Segmentation | Up to eight parts per generated model. /segment_mesh takes up to five part names per run; run it again on the result for more. | Not a usage limit. |
| Long builds | A response can hit a maximum output length and stop with a message saying so. | Click Continue and Assistant resumes. |
| Chats | No hard limit on the number of chats per place. Each chat has its own context window. | Not a usage limit. |
| Code Assist (suggestions in the Script Editor) | A daily cap on the number of suggestions. The docs do not give the number. | The next day. |
What the docs do not say. Roblox's documentation does not say how many messages Assistant allows, whether bigger requests count for more, when a message limit resets, or whether your own API key changes any of it. If a website quotes an exact Assistant message allowance, it did not come from Roblox's documentation.
How to open or reopen the Assistant panel
- Open a place. Assistant's chats belong to the place you are working in, and Roblox's own tutorial starts from a new Baseplate.
- Click Assistant on the right side of the mezzanine bar. That is the strip across the top of Studio with the Home, Model and Script tabs in the middle; Assistant sits on the right with the collaboration, sharing, notification and account buttons.
- Type your request in the Assistant window. The redo icon generates a new response, and thumbs up or down rates one.
If the button or the window is missing
- Update Studio. When your copy is out of date, an Update button appears in the upper-right corner. Clicking it asks you to save or close the place, then Studio updates and restarts. Roblox advises keeping Studio up to date to get the latest features.
- Look for a pinned tab. Studio lets you pin docked windows to an edge of Studio, where they shrink to a tab. If the Assistant window seems to have vanished, check the edges for its tab: click the tab to open it, then the expand button to un-pin it. If it is floating somewhere awkward, drag it by its header bar to dock it again.
- Check Beta Features for newer AI tools. Roblox's AI overview says new AI features can arrive as betas under File > Beta Features, while generally available features are on by default. After changing betas, click Save and restart Studio when asked.
- Check you are signed in. Studio uses your Roblox account, and the account options are on the right of the mezzanine, next to the Assistant button.
Agent vs Plan: how Planning Mode works
The dropdown in Assistant's input panel switches between two ways of working. Roblox's tutorial calls it the Agent dropdown; choosing Plan turns on Planning Mode. Typing /plan does the same.
| Agent | Plan | |
|---|---|---|
| When you send a request | Assistant works on your place as it goes, creating objects and writing scripts. Creator Store assets are shown for you to pick before anything is placed. | Assistant writes a step-by-step plan first. It may ask clarifying questions or suggest a simpler scope. |
| When your place changes | As it works. | Only when you click Build. Plans never run on their own or time out into approval. |
| Editing before it runs | Nothing to edit. Ask for changes afterwards, or edit the result yourself. | Open Plan shows the plan as a Markdown document you can edit. Save sends your edits back to Assistant, and prompting in chat updates the plan too. |
| Where it is kept | In the chat history, which Roblox stores in the cloud for each place. | In the cloud, tied to your experience and your creator profile, across chat sessions. Plans are private: collaborators cannot see them. |
| When to use it | Our suggestion: small, clear changes, such as one script or one property changed across many parts. | Complex requests, as Roblox's guide puts it. Its tutorial plans a whole obby this way. |
After you click Build, a long plan can stop with "The current response exceeded the maximum output length". Nothing is broken: click Continue and Assistant carries on from where it stopped.
Roblox's docs do not say whether planning uses more or less of any allowance than building directly. What a plan does give you is a checkpoint: you can cut an over-ambitious request down before anything in your place changes. Roblox's own tutorial recommends exactly that, since adding features later is easier than removing them.
Using your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Gemini API key
Assistant can run on a model you choose from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini, using an API key from that company. Roblox's steps:
- Get an API key from the provider's own site.
- In Studio, open Assistant.
- Click … > Manage API Keys.
- Select the provider and enter your key.
- Choose the model in the Model dropdown.
What this changes: which model answers you. Use of the key is charged, or limited, under that provider's own terms, so check your account with them.
What the docs do not say: whether requests on your own key still count against any Assistant allowance, or whether generation commands such as /generate_mesh and /generate_procedural_model are affected. Assume the 50 procedural model window still applies unless Roblox says otherwise.
Assistant not working: what to check, in order
Roblox does not document Assistant's error messages, so these steps are general. They run from quickest to slowest, and none of them puts your place at risk.
- Read the exact message. A limit and an error need different fixes. Copy the wording before you close anything; you will need it if you report the problem.
- Check whether Roblox is having problems. Look at status.roblox.com and the Announcements category of the Roblox Developer Forum. If other creators see the same thing at the same time, the fault is on Roblox's side and waiting is the fix.
- Check your connection. Assistant needs the internet: its replies come from an online AI model and your chat history is stored in the cloud, so a dropped or filtered connection can stop both replies and history from loading. Try another network if you can.
- Update Studio with the Update button in the upper-right corner, if it is showing.
- Start a new chat. Open the chat list and choose New Chat. Each chat has its own context window, so a fresh chat sidesteps problems tied to one very long conversation, and the old chat stays in the list.
- Work in one chat at a time across devices. Chat history syncs through the cloud, and Roblox recommends working in one chat at a time when Studio is open on more than one device, to avoid conflicts.
- Restart Studio, then sign out and back in.
- Search the Developer Forum for the exact message. If nobody has reported it, file a bug report following the forum's how to post a bug report guide, with your Studio version, the message and what you asked for. Leave out API keys and anything private from your place.
Getting what you need in fewer requests
Roblox's docs do not say how Assistant counts usage, so there is no trick for stretching an allowance. What does help is wasting fewer tries. These habits come from Roblox's own prompt guide and tutorials:
- Be specific. Use instance names exactly as they are spelt, say what type you mean (a part or a model), and name the approach. Roblox's example: ask it to make "my_part" move up and down 10 studs with TweenService, rather than "make the part move".
- Select first. Selecting objects before you prompt tells Assistant exactly what you mean by "these", and a new script goes into the selected object.
- Say "add a script" for things that should happen in the game. Assistant leans towards doing things at edit time. Roblox's example: "add a script to make the time of day 8:00 AM" rather than "make the time of day 8:00 AM".
- One feature per request, and a plan for anything bigger. Trim the plan before you click Build.
- One chat per topic. Each chat has its own context window, so a long conversation about your shop does not use up space in the one about your map.
- Paste the error. When a playtest breaks, paste the line from the Output window and say what you expected to happen. Roblox's tutorial recommends exactly this.
If you are blocked: other ways to keep working
None of these gives you more Assistant. They are other routes to the same work, each with its own costs and limits. For a fuller side-by-side of the AI options, see how to use AI in Roblox Studio, and for third-party tools, Roblox AI tools compared.
| Option | What you need | Cost | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wait | Nothing | Free | Procedural models free up as requests pass 24 hours. Code Assist comes back the next day. The docs give no time for other limits. |
| Your own API key in Assistant | A key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google | That provider's pricing | Changes the model. The docs do not say it lifts any Roblox limit. |
| Studio MCP server with your own AI client | An MCP client such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI or Gemini CLI | The server comes with Studio; the client costs whatever its maker charges | Can read and edit scripts, run Luau and start playtests in your open place. Connect only clients you trust. |
| Write it yourself | A good guide and some time | Free | Slower at first, but you understand every line. |
| A plugin agent | A third-party plugin and account | Varies by product | A separate tool with its own allowance. One example is below. |
The Studio MCP server
The MCP server is built into Studio. You turn it on from Assistant's own menu (… > Manage MCP Servers, then Enable Studio as MCP server), so the Assistant window does need to open. Then you connect a client such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or Codex CLI, and that client works in your open place with its own model and its own pricing.
Its tools include the same kinds of generation Assistant offers: meshes, materials and procedural models. The docs do not say whether those share Assistant's 50-model window. Full setup, including the JSON config for clients without quick connect, is in how to connect Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT to Roblox Studio.
Writing it yourself
For common systems, a complete guide can be quicker than several rounds of prompting, and you end up knowing how the code works. Start with where scripts run, RemoteEvents and saving player data, and keep the script errors guide open for when the Output window shows red.
Common Assistant messages and what to do
Roblox documents only the first of these messages. For the rest, the advice is general and safe to try.
"The current response exceeded the maximum output length"
A long build reached the most Assistant can write in one response. Click Continue and it resumes where it left off. This one is documented and expected on big plans.
"Failed to load messages"
Chat history loads from the cloud, so the likely causes are your connection or a problem on Roblox's side rather than your place. Check status.roblox.com, then your network, then restart Studio. A New Chat lets you keep working while the old one recovers. Do not delete it: deleted chats cannot be recovered.
"Internal server error"
The wording usually means a request failed on the server side, rather than something being wrong in your place. Roblox does not document this message for Assistant. Wait a few minutes and try again, and check status.roblox.com. If it keeps happening with one chat only, start a new chat.
A message saying you have reached a limit
Roblox's docs do not give Assistant's message allowance or when it resets, so go by what the message says. Meanwhile, see other ways to keep working.
Procedural model generation stopped working
You may have made 50 in the past 24 hours, the one documented Assistant limit. The window rolls, so capacity comes back one request at a time as each passes the 24-hour mark, not all at once at midnight.
Code Assist stopped suggesting code
Code Assist has a daily cap on suggestions and gives none until the next day once you reach it. It also needs a few lines of code in the script before it suggests anything. Alt and Backslash (Option and Backslash on a Mac) asks for a suggestion manually, though that does not always produce one.
The Assistant button is missing
Update Studio, restart it, and look on the right side of the mezzanine bar. If the window was pinned, it sits as a tab on an edge of Studio. See how to open the panel.
Assistant wrote a script that does not work
Roblox says generated scripts might not work perfectly. Paste the error from the Output window and describe what you expected, or fix the script yourself in the Script Editor. If it changed something at edit time that should happen during the game, ask it to "add a script that" does it.
Another option: a plugin agent such as RoCode
RoCode is an AI agent for Roblox Studio made by the RoCode team, an independent product not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Roblox Corporation. It has its own allowance: the free Starter plan includes 250,000 tokens a day, refilled at 00:00 UTC. You describe a change in a web chat at rocode.app, and a free plugin from the Creator Store carries it out in the place you have open, after a one-time pairing with an 8-character code. It is not more Assistant, and it does less in some areas: it does not generate meshes, insert Creator Store models or start playtests. It fits script and object work, such as finishing a system Assistant started.
Assistant stopped partway through my obby. Add a server script so touching any part in the Checkpoints folder in Workspace sets that player's respawn point.
- Can look through the place first with List Children and Search Scripts, to find the Checkpoints folder and any checkpoint code already there
- Writes the server script with Create Script, or changes an existing one with Edit Script
- Compile-checks the script inside Studio with Check Script before it finishes. It does not type-check, lint or run your code
- Sends its changes in batches, each marked as an undo point in Studio's history
You then press Play to test it: RoCode works in edit mode and does not start playtests. The prompt is an example written by us; the steps use the real tool names. How RoCode compares with Assistant.
Questions
Does Roblox Studio Assistant have a daily limit?
Roblox's documentation does not publish a daily message limit for Assistant. The one documented Assistant cap is 50 procedural models in a rolling 24-hour window. If Studio shows you a limit message, that message is the best guide to when it lifts.
When does the Roblox Studio AI limit reset?
It depends which limit. Procedural models do not reset at a set time: each request stops counting 24 hours after you made it. Code Assist suggestions come back the next day. Roblox's docs give no reset time for Assistant messages. Build, the separate mobile tool, resets its free prompts daily.
Is Roblox Studio AI free?
Roblox Studio is free, and Assistant's documentation lists no price. Some features have caps: 50 procedural models per rolling 24 hours, and a daily cap on Code Assist suggestions. If you add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key, that provider's pricing applies to what you use.
Why does Roblox Studio AI have a limit?
Roblox's documentation does not give its reasons. As a general point, every request to a large AI model costs the provider computing time, so free AI tools commonly cap use.
Is there a way around the Assistant limit?
Not one that Roblox documents. Your options are to wait, take a different route such as your own API key, the Studio MCP server or writing the code yourself, or use a separate tool with its own allowance. Avoid anything that asks for your Roblox password, cookie or account details to unlock more use.
Does my own API key remove the limit?
Roblox's documentation does not say. It explains how to add a key and choose a model under Manage API Keys, but not whether requests on your key count against any Assistant allowance. Assume the procedural model cap still applies.
