Limits
What RoCode can't do, and what is out of date
The short answer
RoCode is an AI agent for Roblox Studio: you describe a change in a web chat and its free plugin builds it in the place you have open. Its real limits today: it does not make meshes, textures or animations from scratch, it cannot tell whether your game is fun, it builds a big game in rounds rather than a finished game from one sentence, and it needs Roblox Studio on Windows or Mac and a desktop browser. It runs third-party AI models and has no model of its own. Many complaints you will find online describe older versions of RoCode.
Checked 29 October 2026 against RoCode's docs, pricing page and the Creator Store listing.
No tool is right for every Roblox project. This page lists what RoCode does not do today and what to do instead, the complaints you may read about it and whether they are still true, and the cases where another tool is the better pick. The docs have the exact limits.
Today
What RoCode does not do today
| It does not | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| Meshes, textures and animations from scratch | It places existing models instead: free Creator Store models it finds by searching with your words, or a model, decal or mesh from an asset ID or link you give. For custom meshes, use a 3D tool and import the result. |
| Telling you whether the game is fun | Its playtest (plugin 3.9 or newer) runs for up to 30 seconds, and its test character (plugin 3.9.11 or newer) checks only what the agent chose to test. Play the game yourself before you publish. |
| A finished, balanced game from one sentence | It builds a bigger game in rounds, a working part at a time, and tests as it goes. Balancing, polish and publishing stay yours. |
| Hand-sculpted terrain | It builds Terrain such as hills, lakes and islands with a generated script. Touching it up by hand stays yours. |
| Publishing, game passes, developer products and uploads | It has no tools for these, and the plugin has no code to publish your place or spend Robux. Do them in Studio and Creator Hub. |
| Screenshots while the game runs | Its look check (plugin 3.9.14 or newer) takes screenshots only of what a Build run built, in edit mode. You can attach your own screenshots on any model. |
| Phones, and Studio outside Windows and Mac | The chat needs a desktop browser, and the plugin runs in Roblox Studio on Windows or Mac. |
| Reading every script in a very big place | Search Scripts covers up to 300 scripts under where it starts. If it misses the one that matters, name the folder or script in your message, or attach it with /. |
| Your ChatGPT or Claude subscription | Those subscriptions cannot be connected. Paid plans can use your own OpenRouter key instead, billed by OpenRouter. |
Older posts
Complaints you may read, and what is true now
RoCode changed a lot during 2026, and forum posts, listings and AI answers often describe an earlier version. What changed has the full dated list.
| What you may read | Where it comes from | Now (29 October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| “It is just a ChatGPT or Gemini wrapper.” | Replies to RoCode's beta post on the Roblox DevForum, December 2025. | Partly true, and said openly: RoCode runs third-party models through OpenRouter and names them on the pricing page. What it adds is the Studio side: a plugin with 27 tools that reads your open place, builds in it, compile-checks each script and can playtest, with an undo point for each batch of changes. |
| “Trained on Luau”, or “its own Luau model is coming”. | RoCode's DevForum posts of 5 December 2025, 11 February 2026 and 20 May 2026. | Not true today. RoCode has no model of its own, and the custom model the May 2026 post described is not part of RoCode. |
| “It is a black box: you cannot tell what it runs or what it costs.” | The same beta thread. | Each plan lists its models on the pricing page, the chat shows the models' real names since 3 October 2026, and every run shows the credits it used. |
| “Up to 15 messages a day” free, or a free daily allowance counted in units of text. | The v2.0 post (11 February 2026), and the v3 post and its replies (May 2026). | Starter is free with 1 credit a day, refilled at 00:00 UTC, with no card. Usage is counted in credits since 3 October 2026. |
| “The assistant lives in a widget next to your code.” | The v2.0 post (11 February 2026). | You chat at rocode.app in a desktop browser, and the free plugin makes the changes in the place you have open in Studio. |
| “It cannot playtest.” | Older copies of this site. | With plugin 3.9 or newer it can press Play for a short playtest and read the errors. With plugin 3.9.11 or newer a test character walks, jumps, touches parts and equips tools, and with 3.9.15 or newer it also presses keys, clicks on-screen buttons and types, then reports each check as PASS or FAIL. |
| “You type a pairing code every time.” | Older copies of this site. | With plugin 3.9.13 or newer, Studio connects by itself when it is signed in to the same Roblox account you use on RoCode. The 8-character code stays for every other case. |
| Prices or free credits that do not match the pricing page, a plan called Max, or a Discord step for free credits. | Prices from 2 to 10 October 2026 and free allowances from 2 to 23 October 2026, still in old copies of pages, listings and the changelog. | Starter is 1 credit a day with no Discord step. Pro is $9.99 a month for 150 credits, Studio $19.99 for 320 and Ultra $29.99 for 500, 30% less yearly. Max is no longer offered. See Pricing. |
| “AI tools like this fill Roblox with low-effort games.” | Replies on the Roblox DevForum. | An opinion, and a fair worry. RoCode cannot judge fun, so what ships is still your call. Ask mode answers questions about your scripts without changing anything, if you want to learn how they work. |
| Mixed votes on the Creator Store. | The RoCode AI listing on the Roblox Creator Store. | True. On 29 October 2026, 78% of its 300 votes were positive (234 up, 66 down). |
| “It cannot make particle effects.” | An AI assistant's answer about RoCode, October 2026. | Not true. RoCode can create any Roblox object in your place, including ParticleEmitters, Beams, Trails and lights, and set their properties: ask for “sparkles when the coin is collected” or “smoke from the chimney”. |
| “It only builds one feature at a time.” | Older RoCode pages and posts. | Out of date. Ask for a whole game and RoCode builds a playable first version (for an obby: the course, checkpoints and a finish), then offers the next rounds as buttons, such as more stages or a shop. Smaller changes still work one at a time. |
Fit
When another tool fits better
- You want meshes and animations made for you. Ropilot Studio installs and drives Blender to build meshes and animations, then imports them into Studio. See RoCode vs Ropilot.
- You do not want to install anything. Try Roblox Assistant first. It is built into Studio. See RoCode vs Roblox Assistant.
- You already pay for Claude or ChatGPT. Ropilot's Bring Your Own AI plan and RoAgent put that subscription to work in Studio, and BloxBot accepts a ChatGPT Plus or Pro sign-in. Claude Code and Codex CLI can also connect to Studio's MCP server.
- You want free and open source. BloxBot (MIT) and ZeroScript (GPL-3.0) connect an AI you bring to Studio's built-in MCP server. See RoCode vs BloxBot and RoCode vs ZeroScript.
- You only have a phone. Roblox Build is Roblox's game maker in the Roblox mobile app, for 2D and 2.5D games, rolling out by region. See RoCode vs Roblox Build.
RoCode fits when you have a place open in Studio on Windows or Mac and want an agent to build in it from a web chat, with a free daily credit, named models, checks and an undo point for each batch. FAQ
Questions
What makes RoCode bad?
Its real limits: it does not make meshes, textures or animations from scratch, it cannot judge whether a game is fun, it builds a big game in rounds rather than a finished game from one sentence, it needs Roblox Studio on Windows or Mac and a desktop browser, and on the Creator Store 78% of its 300 votes were positive on 29 October 2026. Several other complaints online, such as 15 messages a day, a model trained on Luau or no playtesting, describe older versions.
Is RoCode just a ChatGPT wrapper?
RoCode runs third-party AI models through OpenRouter and says which ones on its pricing page: DeepSeek V4 Flash on every plan, GLM 5.3 Flash and Claude Sonnet 5.5 from Pro, Claude Opus 5.5 from Studio and GPT-6 Astra on Ultra. What it adds is the Studio side: a plugin with 27 tools that reads the place you have open, builds in it, compile-checks each script it writes, can playtest, and makes each batch of changes an undo point.
Does RoCode have its own AI model?
No. RoCode has no model of its own. Older forum posts said it was trained on Luau and that a custom Luau model would come later; that model is not part of RoCode.
Can RoCode make a whole Roblox game from one prompt?
Not a finished, balanced one. It builds a bigger game in rounds, a working part at a time, and tests as it goes. You still playtest, balance and publish the game yourself.
Why do websites list different RoCode prices?
RoCode's prices and free allowance changed several times in October 2026, and old copies of pages, forum posts and listings still show earlier numbers. Today Starter is free with 1 credit a day, Pro is $9.99 a month for 150 credits, Studio $19.99 for 320 and Ultra $29.99 for 500, 30% less yearly. The pricing page is always current.
